About Jim

Jim McCauley has served on the Newburyport City Council for the past six years, representing Ward 5. Jim has 40 years of successfully helping businesses of all sizes overcome complex challenges.

While on the Council Jim championed outdoor dining, advocated for safety measures for the families at Colby Farm Lane, helped the tennis club with zoning for expansion, persistently pushed for a safe passageway along Hale Street, and worked collaboratively to bring forth traffic calming in our neighborhoods.

Jim and his wife, Liz, raised their two adult children in Newburyport. They are former Newburyport public schools parents. Jim is a graduate of St. John’s Prep and Boston College.

For the past 32 years, Jim has dedicated his life to Newburyport through public service and volunteerism. From community-based volunteerism, co-founding Newburyport Lacrosse, working to organize the initial in-town basketball league (boys and girls), coaching youth sports for 10+ years, and supporting other local charities and community-based organizations, Jim has been an integral part of Newburyport.

Jim has fought for Newburyport residents and delivered. Now as Mayor, he will restore these core values to City Hall, demand respect and responsibility in government, and chart a new course for Newburyport!
